Itinerant observation: Shoes seem to be a big thing here. There are shoe shops practically on every street corner. Some streets are lined with them. I would go so far as to say there is an overabundance of new shoes, and I'm not entirely sure how the profit margin works for these businesses when there is so much competition. Equally important (or perhaps a relaxing pastime?) seems to be the rather civilised art of shoe shining.
